It's a great book, high up on my list of his works. It's been a long time since my last read of it, so that's about as much as I can confidently say. And the number of characters makes it difficult to keep track of all of them at times. It took some adjusting for me on my first read-through. The style in which he wrote it can also be a little off-putting, as the story jumps around between the writers' retreat, and the works they are composing. Chuck doesn't shy away from all sorts of fucked up things, but Guts is stomach-turning (pun only slightly intended). It's a GREAT book, with a lot to delightfully messed up stuff, and if you can stick it out for the whole ride, then you're more or less prepared to dive into any of his other works.īut as u/samejohn22 said, it is brutal. Haunted is a somewhat complicated choice for a first read. Although I don't enjoy some of his work and much as the rest, I've never been disappointed by one of his books.
